Matchmaker or dating app? An honest comparison

How a matchmaker differs from a dating app: one introduction at a time, nobody browsing you, and a booked table when both say yes.

Updated 26 October 2026

A dating app gives you a feed to browse. A matchmaker chooses one person for you and arranges the meeting.Corner Table is built like a matchmaker: one introduction a week, nobody can browse your profile, and when you both say yes we book the table. Neither approach guarantees a relationship. They use your time differently.

Browsing versus one introduction

On an app you scroll, message and decide who to meet. That can work. It also means the person looking at you is comparing you with many others at once.

At Corner Table there is no feed. Every Wednesday at 7 pm you get at most one introduction, with a reason. The other person sees you the same way. If there is nobody that week, we say so.

Who can see you

On most apps, anyone nearby who matches the filters can see your photos. At Corner Table, your profile is shown only to the one person you are introduced to that week. Your surname, employer, email and phone stay private.

Who plans the date

Apps leave logistics to you. Corner Table finds a shared evening, chooses a quiet public place and books it. A first date is a drink. Each person pays for what they order.

Money

Apps often charge a subscription whether or not you meet anyone. Corner Table has no joining fee and no subscription. You pay HK$188 each when a date is confirmed. There is no fee for your first date.

Which is right for you

Choose an app if you want to browse and control the pace yourself. Choose a matchmaker if you want someone else to narrow the field and handle the booking. How Corner Table works.
