What we check

Some services use one big word for this and leave you to guess what is behind it. We would rather give you the list: what we check about every member, and what we do not.

What we check about every member

  1. Identity. An identity document and a live selfie, matched to each other by a specialist identity provider. This happens before a member is introduced to anyone.
  2. Age. The same check confirms the member is 18 or older.
  3. Photos. At least 3 clear photos. A person on our team looks at every photo before it can appear on an introduction, and turns away ones that are unclear or heavily edited.
  4. A signed statement. Every member states that they are single: not married and not in a relationship. We record the date.
  5. The application. A person on our team reads each application before the member is let in.
  6. Every introduction. Juno is an AI and proposes introductions. A person on our team checks each one before it is sent.

What we do not check

  • Criminal records. We do not run criminal record checks.
  • Marriage records. We do not search marriage records. The signed statement is a promise made to us and to you. It is not proof.
  • Work, income, education, health. We do not check what a member tells us about these.

So we do not describe members with words that would promise more than this list. Nobody can look inside another person. Please treat a first date here as you would any first meeting with someone new, and read the safety page.

What we keep from the identity check

  • Pass or fail.
  • The legal name on the document. No other member ever sees it.
  • The date of birth on the document. It replaces the one typed when the member joined, so every age on the site comes from the document.
  • A one-way fingerprint made from the document. It cannot be turned back into the document. Its only job is to recognise the same document again.

We do not store the document itself, its number or the selfie on our own systems. The privacy notice has the rest.

Why a ban holds

On many services a person who is removed can come back with a new email address. Here, a ban attaches to the verified identity through that fingerprint. A new email does not get round it.

If something does not add up

If a member’s photos, age or story turn out not to match the person you met, tell us. You can report it from the app, or in your private debrief the morning after a date. A person reads every report, and lying to us is a reason for removal from Corner Table.

How to reach us

Write to hello@cornertable.co. A person reads every message.
