Safety

Meeting someone new always carries some risk, and no service can remove it. This page says what we do to lower it, what you can do, and how to tell us when something is wrong.

In an emergency call 999

If you are in danger, or someone else is, call the police first. Tell us afterwards, when you are safe.

What we do

  • We choose the venue. Every first date is at a public venue that we picked and booked: a bar, a cafe or a restaurant, with staff and other guests around. Never a private address.
  • We never pass on your number. The other person knows your first name, age, line of work and home area. Not your surname, your employer, your phone number or your address, before the date or after it.
  • No contact details needed to meet. The table is booked under a first name, so you walk in and ask for it. If you are running late, one tap on the date’s page tells the other person through us. You never need to give out your own contact details to find each other.
  • Share my date. Once a table is booked, the date’s page gives you a private link. Send it to a friend and they can see where you will be and when.
  • A private debrief. The morning after, we ask how it went. One question is whether anything made you uncomfortable. A person reads every answer to that question.
  • Bans hold. A ban attaches to a verified identity, not to an email address. See what we check, and what we do not.

How to report

  • Use the report option on the date’s page in the app, at any time.
  • Or tell us in your debrief the next morning.
  • You can report anything: pressure, rudeness, someone who was not who their profile said, someone who asked for money, or something more serious.

A person reads every report. The member you report is not told who reported them. Where safety is involved we can pause a member at once, while we look into it. If a crime may have been committed we will encourage you to go to the police, and we will help the police if they ask us.

Leaving early is always fine

You can leave a date at any moment, for any reason. You do not owe anyone an explanation. If you cancel inside 24 hours or leave because you felt unsafe, tell us what happened. A person will look at it, and can remove the strike and return your credit.

Practical advice for a first date

  • Tell a friend where you are going and when you expect to be back. Use the share link.
  • Make your own way there and your own way home. Do not accept a lift on a first date.
  • Keep your phone charged and with you.
  • Keep your drink in sight, and drink at your own pace, with or without alcohol.
  • Stay at the venue. If you both want to go on somewhere else, choose somewhere public.
  • Keep your home address, your workplace and your financial details to yourself until you know the person well.
  • Never send money to someone you met here, and never invest on their advice, whatever the story. If anyone asks, report them.
  • Nobody from Corner Table will ever ask you for a password, a sign-in code or a payment outside the payment page in the app.
  • Trust your instinct. If something feels wrong, it is enough of a reason to go.

What we cannot do

We check identity, age, photos and a signed statement that a member is single. We do not run criminal record or marriage record checks, and we are not at the venue with you. Please do not read more into our checks than is there. The full list is on what we check.
